In October and November 2026, Halfsister Berlin will host Luft suchen, a two-part exhibition project initiated and organised by Ambasada Kultury. The project is curated by Liso Stec, with Valentina Kiselyova curating the accompanying public programme.

The project unfolds across two exhibitions, bringing together artistic practices concerned with memory, seeing, transmission, ritual, the body, architecture and collective action.

The word luft comes from the German Luft, meaning “air”. In technical usage, it refers to a clearance or gap: a small space between parts that is necessary for movement. Without this air, a mechanism becomes too tight, friction increases, and movement loses the possibility of continuing.

In Luft suchen, this gap becomes an image of the space needed between rigid contexts — a space for breathing, response and collective action, for a thought or desire that can be heard and have an impact on reality. Here, luft is connected with freedom, time and safety, but also with the delicate work of maintaining connections in a situation of pressure.

The artists’ works emerge from different conditions of tension — political, social, migratory, economic and personal. They engage with what is difficult to hold in language: air, light, ritual, the body, architecture, voice, sign and translation. Across the works, movement takes place from lived experience to form, from an inner sensation to an image, from memory to action, and from atmosphere to matter.

Luft suchen proposes thinking of the exhibition as a search for air between the details of reality: a space in which pressure can be recognised while, at the same time, the possibility of movement can be sought. A space where personal experience meets the collective and the immaterial gradually takes form.

The first exhibition is connected with seeing. It works with memory, traces, voids and ways of recognising the present. Slow looking is important here: the moment when meaning is only beginning to emerge through matter, light, tension and the relationship between the artwork and the viewer.

Exchange of Seeds and Thoughts with Anna Chkolnikova

Anna Chkolnikova invites you to take part in the event: “Exchange of Seeds and Thoughts”.Each participant invited  brings “anonymous” seeds, and they are all mixed together. We invite you to join a conversation about the nature of infinite multiplication, the soil for new ideas, thoughts and experiences. And wonder at how understanding arises, and when and what grows out of the unknown. On leaving, everyone takes some of the seeds, without knowing exactly what will sprout from them.

16 October, 18:30
Curatorial tour with Liso Stec and conversation with Ambasada Kultury — Valentina Kiselyova and Anna Chistoserdova, held in Belarusian

Alongside an introduction to the exhibition’s concept and the works of its participating artists, we will discuss how Belarusian art and culture are developing in exile in Europe, how artists and cultural workers are building new connections and communities in migration, and what opportunities cultural initiatives create for collaboration, mutual support and collective action. We will also explore how the diaspora itself and its audiences can participate in shaping the cultural environment and influencing its development.

17 October, 16:00
Мoderated discussion “Space for Action in the Present” with PhD. Oxana Gourinovitch, architectural historian, curator and architect, in English

The discussion will be dedicated to sharing experiences of how, in situations of migration, instability and changing contexts, we create spaces that enable us to act here and now — for ourselves, for others and for the collective. What do we need not merely to wait for the future, but to be able to move forward, make decisions and build connections today? Whom do we expect to provide such spaces — institutions, communities, the city, other people — and what are we capable of creating ourselves?Together with Oxana Gourinovitch and the exhibition participants, we will explore space as a condition for safety, visibility, orientation and action.

18 October, 16:00
Finissage and Song for You by Katsia Kaya, artist, vocal artist and performer

A Song for You is a series of songs Katsia Kaya writes for people: for their stories, their losses and their hopes. The songs are sung in Latin, Yiddish and sometimes in invented languages, and performed with voice, objects and electronics. Each song begins with listening and ends as a gift to the person it was written for.At Halfsister she will perform three songs from the cycle: Abiens Abi, Amīcus and Schlaf sche meine Vögele.

Artists and participants

Volo Bevza

is a Ukrainian visual artist born in 1993 in Vyshneve, Ukraine, and based in Berlin. Working primarily with painting, digital printing and mixed media, he transforms fragments of war imagery and media representations of his homeland into abstract pictorial compositions. His practice explores the tension between figuration and abstraction, destruction and aesthetic order, and the ways political reality becomes embedded in visual forms. Combining painterly gestures with digital techniques, Bevza creates fluid, fragmented image spaces that reflect uncertainty, transformation and the instability of contemporary experience.

Anna Chkolnikova

is a contemporary visual artist born in Minsk and based in Berlin, Germany. Her practice spans site-specific installations, art-in-architecture and multimedia projects exploring memory, hidden traces, transience, and the tension between forgetting and renewal. Working with physical objects, texts and architectural elements, she uncovers hidden or suppressed stories, creating fluid, intermediate spaces between presence and absence. Her installations invite viewers to follow subtle signs into a sensitive and elusive space where familiar perceptions shift and a sense of belonging can emerge.

Aleksander Komarov

is a Belarusian artist and filmmaker based in Berlin. His practice spans essay films, video, writing and installation, exploring the political, economic and social conditions that shape contemporary life. Working with moving images as both a medium of representation and a form of political activity, Komarov examines how images produce meaning, construct social realities and influence the ways we understand history, identity and power. His research-based films combine documentary material and critical reflection, resisting conclusive narratives in favour of multiple perspectives and open-ended interpretations. Komarov is a co-founder of Air Berlin Alexanderplatz, a Berlin-based artist initiative dedicated to artistic research, experimental knowledge production and exchange across disciplines.

Oxana Gourinovitch

PhD, TU Berlin, is an award-winning architectural historian, architect, and curator studying entanglements of architecture and geopolitics across modernity. Her research focuses on, but is not confined to, the built environments of state socialism, tracing their involvement in the geopolitical transformations of the 20th and 21st centuries. Gourinovitch holds several fellowships, including the CCA/WRI Fellowship at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal and the Egon Eiermann Postdoc Fellowship at ETH Zürich. She currently teaches at TU Berlin and HCU Hamburg.

Katsia Kaya

is a voice artist and performer who composes her own works for voice, objects and electronics, and has performed at Kampnagel Hamburg, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Theaterhaus Stuttgart. She also leads the Wish Fulfilment Choir, where people sing their wishes together, and teaches voice through her practice bodyvoice.art

Luft suchen I & II: дзьве выставы Ambasada Kultury
ў Halfsister Berlin

Valentina Kiselyova.

Halfsister Berlin
Torgauer Straße 1, 10829 Berlin

Liso Stec

Exchange of Seeds and Thoughts з мастачкай Anna Chkolnikova

Фінісаж, і Song for You (Песня для цябе) - Katsia Kaya, мастачка, вакальная мастачка, перформерка.

Schlaf sche meine Vögele.
